Following a loss to perennial power Lakeside on Monday evening, Deer Park began the turn in fortunes the next evening against Medical Lake and did not disappoint the home fans.

Camryn Chapman, one of six sophomores on first year coach Kimmie Brazington’s squad, got the match started with five points on her opening serve which included a thundering kill for the first point. Emily Westerman and Caitlyn Watson contributed key kills and Delaney Newman added an ace

The visiting Cardinals closed to within one at 1615 before the home squad closed with a 9- 1 run for the opening set win. Chapman had two of her match high 20 kills and closed out the set with two of her match best 11 aces.

Set number two was a role- reversal with Medical Lake closing on a 12- 7 run to take the set 25- 19 as the home side got no closer than three points.

Chapman’s strong evening continued as she opened with two aces for a 3- 0 Deer Park advantage, only to see the Cardinals score seven consecutive points. Spurned by a 10- 6 run, the Lady Stags evened the set at 13. The backand- forth third set saw Deer Park go up three 24- 21, but the visitors would rally for a 24- 24 deadlock. Deer Park tallied the final two points, fittingly the final tally on a Champan ace.

The fourth set found Deer Park in a quick 15- 3 hole. It was at that point the Lady Stags began accumulating crucial momentum as they fought their way back, closing the gap to a pair at 24- 22 before falling 25- 22.

The deciding set opened with three points on the serve of Champan, including an ace and a kill by Aljejandrena Garcia. Six points on the service of Watson pushed the lead to 10- 2.

Kills by Kolby Collvier and two by Chapman helped close out the deciding set 15- 6.

Newman dished out 28 assists and Roby Robison let the Lady Stags with 19 digs.

Two nights later a short trip down Deer Park- Milan road to Riverside for the first installment of the volleyball “Battle Of The Horns”. The Lady Stags did not disappointment the fans who made the short drive east.

With the match tied at one set each Deer Park took the next two sets 28- 26 and 25- 19 to secure their second league win of the week. Champan had 13 kills, Newman 28 assists, Watson five aces and Robison 19 digs.

Saturday brought a long trip and early start to tournament action in Quincy. Deer Park won their pool at the event, with triumphs over Quincy, Warden and Tonasket before falling to Brewster in bracket play.
