Chewelah Police Chief Ryan Pankey Hears Report on Alleged Misconduct

Chewelah Police Chief Ryan Pankey was placed on administrative leave on May 3rd, 2022, pending an investigation into allegations of misconduct. An investigation was conducted. The Civil Service Rules and Regulations require that management provide notification of a Pre-Discipline Hearing and the basis for a Pre-Discipline Hearing. On September 16, 2022, starting at 9 AM a Pre-Discipline Hearing was conducted. Mr. Pankey and his attorney requested the opportunity to respond in writing to the allegations and investigation report. It is anticipated that the written responses will be provided to the City’s management attorney on or before September 23, 2022, prior to 5: 00 PM.

The city has received numerous public record requests regarding the investigation involving Chief Ryan Pankey. These requests are being addressed in accordance with the Public Records Act and when required, affected persons, inclusive of Chief Pankey are being provided 3rd party notification and an opportunity to object to the release of records and information pursuant to RCW 42.56.540.

Affected persons have up to 30 days to obtain a court order blocking the release of records requests/ information. It is for this reason, that the City of Chewelah cannot currently provide further details relating to this matter and must respect the laws. Public Records laws must be complied with.
